Issues with kodi on mac10/11/2023 ![]() ![]() I can play VLC and QuickTime at the same time without them fighting over the audio device. I'm puzzled about this, as any other app on the Mac is able to play audio simultaneously with any other app on the Mac. This makes other apps have to claim it back apparently, causing a drop out and fade in every time I play a song on Spotify. Either that or it keeps it busy all the time. Kodi appears to use the audio device directly instead of going through the system. I expect to be able to launch Kodi silently without Kodi doing anything to the audio device until a video is played Actual Behavior I expect to be able to put on a song on Spotify and hear the first note at 0s without interference from Kodi. I am quite sure other apps don't hog the audio device. I expect other apps on the Mac to be able to use the audio device without Kodi having to 'release' it to them. But maybe the fade in is a system thing that will go away if Kodi stops hogging the audio device altogether. It ruins putting on a lot of songs that start out with a bang. Why can't it stick to system audio?ī - If it really has to, I could live without the fade out/in during handover. No other app on my Mac does this (QuickTime Player, VLC. Same happens if I launch Kodi while music is playing from another app.Ī - Kodi needs to claim the audio device for itself. Kodi appears to notice that the monitor is gone, therefore releases the audio device, causing drop out/in with cross fade on music currently playing. The same thing actually happens if I turn off the TV set. And when another app on the machine wants it, Kodi lets go, and a drop out, fade in takes place. I'm pretty convinced that this has to do with Kodi 'claiming' the audio device for itself. This is very detrimental to the listening experience if the song starts out with a bang. Now when I put on some music on Spotify (using Spotify Connect, from my workstation), most of the time I miss the song's first note. I keep Kodi running because then I can sit down around the TV and put something on using the Mac mini remote, without any additional steps. ![]() I run Kodi on a mac mini which controls my Spotify in the living room also.
